ABOUT ME
I am a proven professional with more than 20 years of graphic design experience. Throughout my career, I have worked to not only continually develop my design and technical skills, but to also enhance my creative abilities. Most recently, I have added web development and photography to my creative toolbox
I work at a media and information company for more than 20 years as an art director and graphic designer, giving me a tone of experience in a range of products, including magazines, advertisements, marketing materials, reference books, and mapping data.
I am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Apple Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, ArcGIS Online & Desktop, and photography.
Production & Design Manager
The University of Alabama - 2025-Present
Responsible for the management of all manufacturing and design activities for a scholarly press producing approximately 60 new books from manuscripts and 16 reprints or new-in-paper editions a year. Prepares castoffs from the manuscript and/or images, charts, and tables to determine each book's page count. Works with suppliers to adhere to schedules and reviews proofs and other samples. Prepares cost estimates for all new titles and new-in-paper editions. Provide costs for restock titles as needed. Work with the managing editor to create and adhere to editorial, design, and production schedules for all titles. Prepares bids in accordance with the University of Alabama's procurement policies. Create, update, and comment on title schedules and specifications in the Firebrand Title Management Database.
Oversee the design of 50-60 titles a year, collaborating with Acquisitions Editors to solicit and incorporate author feedback.
Manage the design work for both book interiors and covers for all University of Alabama Press publications, done by the Production & Design department and freelance compositors and designers, keeping work within budget and on schedule. Prepare the majority of manuscripts for typesetting.
Analyze, assess, and make recommendations on the viability of art submitted with manuscripts.
Book Designer & Production Assistant

Design book covers and typesetting of scholarly books covering history, culture, religion, southern culture, civil rights, military history, archaeology, and more. Assist with the production of all books. Prepare cover, mechanicals, and interiors pages for the printer. Maintaining schedules, updating information in the Firebrand (Title Management) database, and conversion of jackets to covers and text corrections for new-in-paper and back titles.

Also created custom web posts using HTML/CSS on WordPress to match the style of the magazine layouts and a digital book. Created and designed maps for the magazine’s annual atlas. Designed client ads, posters, postcards, newsletters, and catalogs. I also serve as the go-to person for Mac problems and troubleshooting.
